Reflection:
Through
the creation of my extended inquiry project I created a power point, video, and
children's book. I chose to do my project on Ebola because I was curious on its
effect on American healthcare workers and U.S. citizens. I am a CNA, and
inspiring Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. My career goal influenced my
interest on Ebola because the media made Ebola appear as an unstoppable threat. However, I
learned that Ebola is not as deadly as it seems - as long as you do not
acquire it. The Ebola Virus is spread through bodily fluids and it has on average, a 50%
mortality rate. The American nurses that were infected with the virus have
survived their ordeal. The U.S. has also taken an effective response by using
the 21 day quarantine method. It is crucial to understand that one is infected
once symptoms are shown within 21 days.
Although my project was about the effect of Ebola on the U.S., I wish I did more research on the damaging effect of Ebola in West Africa. Considering the CARS method, I believe I did well at establishing a territory by claiming centrality, making topic generalization, and reviewing previous items of research. I found a hard time when establishing a niche and I believe my research was lacking on that aspect. |
