Midterm Reflection:
- How has the semester progressed for you so far? What have you learned in this class so far?
- I have enjoyed the first half of our semester. I learned more about literacy and its importance in our lives. Before this class I did not think much about it or how it impacts others.
- What do you hope to learn in the second half of this course?
- I am not sure what I hope to learn, but I like learning things that I do not expect to be taught that will influence my opinions. So in a sense I hope to learn something “new” that will somehow influence my ideas.
- What connections are you making within this class, and to other classes you are taking or have taken since starting college?
- We discussed a bit about diversity and in my Global Connections class that is a significant topic. In that class I learn about different people and also have the opportunity to meet them. Meeting new people from other countries is similar to our readings and how we read about other individual’s lives. The connection I made was having the ability to understand these people from my Global Connections class. Similarly, we discussed how literacy has many forms and how it is primarily the ability to understand.
- How would you describe your writing process? Has it changed at all since the start of the semester?
- I believe my writing process depends on the topic I am given. I do not believe my writing process has changed, but I have been going into more detail than I thought I could with a topic. For example, I did not think I could write over 3 pages on the Literacy Memoir but somehow I made it into 7 pages. I think I am a bit more patient with my thoughts. Personally, I have to take my time and wait for thoughts to come to me- and this can be for a long period such as days or weeks (mostly days).
- Thinking back to the start of the semester, how would you describe the extent to which you are meeting your general semester goals?
- My goals was to make straight A’s because that would benefit me since I am in the Pre-Nursing program. It is a competitive program and I was informed if I made straight A’s that I would be pretty much guaranteed into the Nursing Program. But now I think it is fine to make B’s. Some classes can be difficult but I just have to try my hardest to do what I can even if it is not much. Hopefully I can do better.
- What are you proud of in the work you’ve done in the course so far? This could be your written work, class participation, collaboration, etc.
- I am proud that I am not struggling in this class like some other classes of mine. This is one of my favorite classes because I like writing and I am proud of my writings. I feel that because there are many people who dislike writing they become “bad” at it. Liking a subject in school is difficult so I am proud I like to write. At first I had assumed college English classes were going to be all papers, worksheets, and no fun. However, this class is at a good pace that I like that makes me like to go to class.
- What has been your favorite activities or writing assignments? What have you liked the least? How would you change the class, if I appointed you Queen or King for the day?
- I like the literacy memoir we did because it was a more relaxed way of writing than the “traditional” research paper. I felt that I was able to convey my thoughts more easily but it was still a bit difficult- but I liked it. I liked the blogs the least. I do like our blogging assignment but I like our blogs the least because I am not that inspired to keep up with it and create a theme that I can stick with throughout the semester. I don’t know if it is too late to change my theme but since I have not been keeping up with it there is not that much of a difference. There is not anything that I can think of that should be changed about the class. If we could, it would be great to have a day to work on our inquiry in class.
